Beatles Special

Talisman Sounds Open Mic Session - Beatles Special Edition at Varsity Roath

8pm Monday 30th November 2009

"It was twenty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play"

Well it was actually 40 years ago this month that the Beatles officially split up, and to mark the event Talisman Sounds will be holding the Talisman Sounds Open Mic Session - Beatles Special Edition at Varsity Roath

Following on from the success of last month's Noon Song Contest when the Cotton Pickers impressed the judges with their rendition of Sittin' On Top Of The World, performers are invited to join in the challenge again - so anyone performing a Lennon and McCartney (or George or Ringo - but Yoko is banned!) song will be in with a shout of going home with the bottle of fizz.

And to round off the evening, we'll be having a mass busk & singalong to some of the mop-top's finest: Hey Jude, Let It Be, I Saw Her Standing There.

So click on the pdf files to download the songsheets and sing, play or clap along with the Talisman Sounds Lonely Hearts Club Band

So remember - You're such a lovely audience
We'd like to take you home with us
We'd love to take you home
I don't really want to stop the show
But I thought that you might like to know

Update: It was 1960s flashback time at the Talisman Sounds Lonely Hearts Club Band Open Mic.

Varsity favourites Steve and Pete Hughes warmed up the coldest Monday night since the last cold Monday while Stewart Alexander sponsored by Strepsils was in fine voice.

The Stavros Banjo was a real treat but not before he helped Varsity first-timer Dawn blow Tina Turner away with her version of River Deep Mountain High.

Taking us back in time, the antique banjolele strummings of Andy Roberts took the prize for "song performed on the smallest stringed instrument" but he also came joint first for his harmonica work in the "song performed on the smallest blown instrument"

Sunshine 0135 brought harmony to the event before the massed ranks joined to deliver a 'unique' rendition of Hey Jude. Well done to those who included Beatles songs in their performance, Paul and Ringo will appreciate the royalties.

Next up is an extra Talisman Sounds, Varsity Roath Open Mic Session on Monday 7th December so dust off some Christmas songs, brush off your red suit and come and join in
